Protection
When most people think of “protection dog” 1 or 2 things typically
come to mind. First, is the overly aggressive dog that regardless of the
situation will bite without provocation. This is a dog that has no
control, typically lacks solid nerve and the confidence to deal with
pressure and not bite. It’s more “territorial” drive than defense. This
type of dog is not safe around children, or, in the general public. This
type of dog is what is commonly called the “Junk Yard Dog”.
THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL PROTECTION DOG!
Secondly, we see the “Schutzhund” dog. This dog will attack on
command, defend the owner and has outstanding obedience. The agitator
(bad guy), children and all can approach and pet this dog without being
seen as a threat. This type of dog shows all of the qualities most
people look for in a protection dog. However, this fine tuned dog is
trained for a SPORT.
THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL PROTECTION DOG!
Personal protection dogs are formed from the BEST qualities of the
above 2 choices offering a mixture of both worlds. It is a dog that when
commanded or under provocation will defend family and property without
any second thoughts. To him it is strictly business. A correctly trained
dog can be walked, or taken out without the extreme fear of attacking
for no reason. However, once any dog is trained to protect extreme
caution should ALWAYS be used. This dog is not to be confused with a
“community pet”. He is a dog with the purpose to protect.
The information below is only designed to give minimum information
regarding the different levels of protection that we offer. If you have
any additional questions please contact us for additional information.
LEVEL 1 PROTECTION:
This course is designed for the owner with a minimum need of
protection. This dog is more of a “deterrent” to neutralize situations
that require no physical contact. This course teaches your dog defensive
behavior such as barking, growling, showing of teeth etc. This technique
is similar to a Schutzhund bark and hold. The actual act of biting is
NOT part of this course; however this doesn’t mean your dog will not
bite when there is a threat.
LEVEL 2 PROTECTION:
This course engages full attack on the perpetrator when command is
given, or an attack is made. Your dog will learn to become a defensive
weapon. Upon command the dog will attack and continue until commanded to
stop. Your dog will be trained to adjust to and fight through sticks,
gunfire and physical contact facing an aggressive person and other
multiple distractions. Every dog cannot achieve this level of discipline
and courage your dog will need to be evaluated prior to training to get
a determination of his ability. |
